BIOGRAPHY

Silvia Martes (b. 1985, Eindhoven, the Netherlands) lives and works in Amsterdam.
She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and was an artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten from 2019 to 2021.
In 2021, she was shortlisted for the Prix de Rome and won the Theodora Niemeijer Prize.

She has held solo exhibitions at Museum De Pont (Tilburg) and the Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven), and completed residencies in Ukiha (Japan), Aruba, Oldenburg (Germany),
and London (UK). In 2023, her first retrospective took place at the Edith Russ Haus for Media Art (Oldenburg), followed by another in 2024 at the Leopold Hoesch Museum (Düren)
as part of the Günther Peill Stiftung two-year scholarship.

In 2025, she completed a two-year filmic research project supported by the Hartwig Art Foundation. Her works have also been shown at Kunsthal Extra City (Antwerp, 2022), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam, 2021), and EYE Filmmuseum (Amsterdam, 2020), among others.
